Blast From the Past at the Tucson Beauty School!
February 12, 2010
It was a blast from the past at the Central Tucson Empire Beauty School during their 100 Days of Empire celebration. The students showcased their skills using a “Through the Decades” theme. The students participated by dressing up to reflect the decade they
wanted to celebrate: 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s. The pre-salon students just finished learning about color theory and showcased what they learned on their mannequins.
The students also made and wore tie-dye shirts for the 70’s. They dyed shirts at the school and even gave a few away to guests. There were also a few students dancing to the Electric Slide throughout the day in celebration of the 80’s.
Mark Vannatta, the school’s Executive Director said, “The event went great but I really can’t take the credit, it was my students who did most of the work. They were so enthusiastic.”
Tana Jones, Director of Development at Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse, was present at the school for a check donation in the amount of $2,672.68. Tana was certainly surprised by the donation amount and at first the only thing she could say was “Wow!”
There was also recent graduate from the Tucson school who was in the area who stopped by for the open house. This student was from Guam and she currently lives and works there. She told everyone that she was able to make it where she is today because of all the teachers at Empire. She is coming back to the school in a few days to speak to the current students about what her education has done for her and to demonstrate a few techniques she has learned in Guam.
