Center City School Rolls Out The Red Carpet With Special Guests; Donation!

June 18, 2010

check donation to philadelphia shelter The Center City Philadelphia Empire Beauty School raised and donated $2405.50 to the local domestic violence shelter, Women Against Abuse. The students felt great about the donation and the shelter was so appreciative of the gift. They explained to the students how much the donation will help residents at the shelter, especially in these tough times.

The students and guests were treated to a demonstration from a Matrix Philly beauty student working on mannequinrepresentative. Every 45 minutes a new demonstration began. One aspect of this Matrix presentation that intrigued the students was the mannequin competition. There were four students selected from the room and divided into two teams. The two teams had only 10 minutes to design and actually create a style/up-do for the mannequin. The students had a blast all while learning the value of team work.

There was also a guest and inspirational speaker named Will Little. Will spoke to the students about surviving city life and succeeding and reaching their goals and dreams.

The school was decorated from top to bottom with star decals stuck to the floor and there was one star for each of Empire Education Group’s 100 schools.

Each of the classrooms also had its own theme. The students in the classrooms formed a team and had to turn the room into what they envisioned their own salon would be like. The students had to research the cost of renting retail space in the area, create a budget for their salon, create a salon menu with prices, research how to get loans when opening a salon, and the fun part for them was actually decorating the classroom to represent the actual salon. There were many different themes but each “salon” had many of the same services. Services included nails, facials and skin care, hair styling and cutting, and other typical salon services.

Guests at the event were also treated to complimentary beauty services and tours of the school. Students also had the opportunity to network with local salon representatives and community leaders.
