100 Days of Empire
July 10, 2010
The Framingham, MA, Empire Education Group cosmetology school had a very unique celebration and variety of activities on the day of there 100 Days of Empire open house. The Framingham school invited the the staff and shelter from the Waltham Empire Beauty School. The theme for the day was decades of beauty. All the students did a great job decorating the school and the main event of the day was the tours they gave to all guests and free manicures/pedicures and hair cuts that were offered.
All students participated and their work was displayed throughout the entire school. Each room represented a different decade. The students from that classroom chose a decade and had to research that decade and create a poster board filled with different information and facts about that decade.
The students also had to accessorize and create and hairstyle for the mannequins for that decade as well. When the guests were given tours, students explained their projects from each decade. The main event for the day was giving back to the shelters, it almost seemed as though this day was dedicated to them. The Framingham’s shelter, Voices Against Violence, came for the day’s events and brought a few of the shelter’s residents. The residents enjoyed touring the school and seeing the student’s work. The residents were also given free manicures and pedicures. The school also raised and donated $ 1,705.63 to their shelter and also donated some blankets and travel size toiletries. The shelter residents were at a loss of words for these donations. Representatives of the shelter explained to everyone how their program worked and expressed their sincere appreciation for the donations because the shelter almost had to close. The shelter really enjoyed the students' company and appreciated all their hard work and dedication.
REACH Beyond Domestic Violence, the shelter from the Waltham school was also present. The staff from the Waltham beauty school presented the shelter with a donation of $ 3,746.22 as well as toiletry items and blankets and sheets. This shelter was also extremely appreciative and explained to everyone their program and how perfect timing this donation was because they are presently opening a newer and larger facility to accommodate their residents needs. Just like the Framingham shelter, REACH Beyond Domestic Violence expressed their sincere appreciation of the donations from the students and staff.
The school also had a local Super Cuts attend their event and Super Cuts spoke to students about job opportunities. They offered giveaways to the students and to the residents at the shelter who came for the open house and day’s events. The representatives from Super Cuts thought what the students did for the local shelters was great.
