June 10, 2010
Local salon owners, community leaders and more welcomed guests came to the Cherry Hill, NJ, school to take a tour and observe the days activities at the school’s 100 Days of Empire open house event.
The students of the school also proudly presentation funds to a local women’s shelter, The Providence House, in the amount of $963.00. The shelter representatives spoke to the students about how important it is for them to learn and know the many different signs and types of domestic violence and abuse exists. The shelter representatives plan to come back within the next month to hold a training for the students. The
shelter representative also told the students that the money they donated may not seem like all that much to them, but to the shelter it was considerable; and will assist in helping the quality of life for those at the shelter.
The Cherry Hill school continued their celebration with an additional theme of Summer Breeze—Tropical Paradise. The school was decorated
with flower decorations, steel drum music playing, inflatable palm trees, balloons, and refreshments such as fruits and fruit flavored drinks for guests.
The school also planned a number of events through out the day for students and guests. The competition for the day was called a total competition with a tropical theme which included make up, toe
nails/finger nails, hair and attire/fashion. The students were in groups, and each student in the group worked on different aspects of the model. The judges were made up of staff from the school. Winners were awarded the following prizes:
1st – the whole team won $10 gift cards and certificate of participation
2nd - the whole team won $5 gift cards and certificate of participation
3rd - certificate of participation
There was also a 50/50 raffle for the day and anyone could enter. Half of the money from the raffle went to the winner and the rest went to the 2011 Future Pro Expo fund.
The energy at the school was great and the school felt that it had 100% participation from all the students. The students were very excited and enthusiastic about the event, especially the competition.
