Bordentown Beauty School Donates To Providence House!
June 8, 2010
The Bordentown, NJ, beauty school donated $1249.67 to a local domestic violence shelter, The Providence House. The students raised the funds during Empire Education Group's National Day of Beauty event. The shelter was very appreciative of the students' hard work and have decided to return to the school within the month to train the students on signs of domestic violence: how to identify, signs to look for, and how to approach a client or a domestic violence situation, not only with clients but for themselves, too.
In addition to the 100 Days of Empire celebration, the Bordentown, NJ, beauty school celebrated Hair Around the World. All the classrooms were decorated with a specific country in mind such as; France, Italy, Mexico, Germany, and Ireland. The students where allowed to decorated their rooms in ways that represented the country they chose with flags, crepe paper and other items. Later in the day each classroom held a mannequin competition. Each student could style their mannequin’s hair and makeup using any theme and /or idea from their "country."
There was one winner chosen from each "country." Each winner was given a gift bag of hair products as a prize. The evening students also celebrated the theme and held there own version of the competition. After the students where finished with the mannequins they walked them down the runway in the salon for the judges. The judges consisted of the school's staff.
The students also offered free beauty services such as hairstyles and cuts to the general public and welcomed guests of their open house event. Prospective students were also greeted and given tours of the school and student salon. Local business and community members were also on hand to meet the students and network with job opportunities.
