August 2, 2010
The Aurora, Colorado, Empire Beauty School presented a donation to their local domestic violence shelter, Gateway Battered Women's Services, in the amount of $694.00. The shelter was extremely grateful for the students' hard work and dedication in raising the donation.
The school also had a “Relaxation Station” where they offered free pedicures and mini makeovers for all guests. This station by far a big hit and was the busiest part of the school all day. Along with free beauty services and school tours for the welcomed guests of the schools 100 Days of Empire open house event, the school also celebrated “Aurora’s Got Talent.” The theme allowed the students to showcase their creative skills and many different talents. One student painted a profile of a current cosmetology educator, and another student displayed their beauty talent by showing the guests and current students a modern cut and style on a mannequin. There were also a few
students who decided to sing for the event.
Throughout the day students also displayed long hair creative updos on their mannequins. The mannequins were created a week prior to the event and unveiled the morning of the event for judging. The second and third place winners won gift baskets of beauty hair products, and the first place winner took home a $50 gift card to Ruby Tuesdays. There was an hourly drawings for the celebration where students could win various styling products. Local radio station KQKS was also on site to help with the celebration, broadcasting and bringing more attention to the school and the celebration. The students and guests were also able to enter various competitions with the radio station to win free prizes.
